During this session an analysis process with supporting graphic tools will be presented as an effective way to identify performance improvement opportunities.  Furthermore, this approach with its related Organization Mapping tools has an important added benefit of helping to involve and engage an organization's people, who are essential to the implementation of changes and ongoing management for sustaining improvements.  Participants will have an opportunity to work with an Organization Map hands-on.  And, several actual case studies from a cross-section of business sectors will be presented and offered for discussion.



  • Taking a "different view" of any organization makes it possible to highlight valuable potential. - There is significant opportunity to identify otherwise "invisible" improvement potential when we look at an organization from the perspective of how it works (organization map) and in the context of its marketplace, rather than only its internal reporting relationships or how its structured (organization chart).

  • Measures should be defined, aligned and calibrated from the "outside-in." - Effective management measures need to tie back to and support the achievement of customer/market focused results, if an organization is to be successful in the short as well as the long-term.

  • People ARE the organization and need to be "part of the solution." - The best ideas and recommendations for improvement will be useless if the appropriate people within the organization don't own and/or support them, i.e., if people have not been involved and engaged, changes are not likely to be implemented, much less institutionalized.

SPEAKER BIO:  Carol M. Panza is a recognized expert in organization, process and job analysis for effective, sustainable performance improvement. Carol uses organization mapping as a key analysis tool and is very experienced at helping others to build their analysis skills.


Carol was Senior Associate at Applied Performance Analysis and The Rummler Group before forming CMP Associates in 1985. She has worked with clients from a broad range of industries and countries during her long career and feels that the loyalty of her clients is the most important indicator of success.  Examples of a few of Carol’s clients include, Exxon International – Tanker Department, Indiana Bell Telephone, The Sherwin-Williams Company, National Vision, Cigna Dental Health, Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, Office Depot and SAIC/Telcordia.


Carol is frequently invited to speak on performance topics domestically in the USA and internationally and has many published articles and book chapters. Her own book on organization mapping, entitled, Picture This . . . Your Function, Your Company, which was first published in 1989, continues to be a unique and useful resource.


She is very active professionally including two years on the Board of Directors of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).  She is currently serving as President of the Executive Board of ISPI EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and became Chair of the Board of Directors for the International Federation of Training and Development Organizations (IFTDO) in January, 2013.



JetBlue University is located at 8265 Hangar Blvd., Orlando, FL 32827. JetBlue U is situated on the NE area of the Orlando Int'l. Airport property. Take 528 to Goldenrod Rd. and go South. Take the first right, on to Cargo Rd. Take the next right, on to Hangar Blvd. Take the second entrance on the right, to enter the JetBlue U facility. At the gate, buzz the receptionist and let them know you're here for the ISPI event. They will raise the gate and you can proceed through. Turn to the left and park anywhere there is an open spot.
