It can be hard to understand how much of an impact a mission-centered organization actually makes.  Measuring countable things like donor dollars, volunteer hours and beds provided indicate activity…but not necessarily impact. Can you measure “better life?”

To make it even more challenging, that “better life” for the population you serve likely depends on efforts outside your organization as well as individual client behavior.  If you can’t make decisions based on meaningful measures of impact, then you should be measuring what matters!

In this session, we will:

  • Familiarize ourselves with rubrics as a performance measurement tool;

  • Learn the six steps to creating your own organizational performance measurement tool;

  • Review some sample rubrics to help you think about assessing your organization’s performance; and

  • Discuss how to usefully implement rubrics to bring about sustainable, distinctive impact.

About Your Facilitator:

Mark Bowers—The Measurement Guy—helps leaders make a distinctive, sustainable social impact.  He has over 30 years leading and managing government, business and information technology efforts. Upon leaving the corporate workforce, Mark established Lighthouse One to leverage his passions in strategic planning, coaching and performance improvement for the benefit of leaders trying to make a difference.

Mark serves in leadership roles with the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).  He is a credentialed coach, a trained facilitator, and a volunteer caseworker for a military financial aid organization.
